Integrated Research Projects for Practical Education

Mechanical Engineering comprises a full spectrum of applications. Practical research at the Department of Mechanical Engineering is carried out in 19 institutes under the direction of 28 professors, 262 assistant professors and scientific support staff, and is supported by 183 technical and administrative personnel.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers sound and sophisticated education in product planning, prototype development and study, and actual production. Research and development are integral to all Mechanical Engineering studies.

You can choose your majors in:

   - Product Development and Production

   - Energy Engineering

   - Railsystem Technology   ( Starting 2011/12 )

For further informations concerning the major courses please contact               Dr. Birgitta Kappes: kappes@carlbenzschool.de

Studying the limits of material resistance receives particular attention. For example, the Institute of Material Science carries out comprehensive experiments on the performance of materials under extreme thermo-mechanical stress for instance, or evaluation of the creep load of a gas turbine blade that is partially overlaid by high-frequency oscillations and thermal tension, as this test can not be simulated at a theoretical level. Research findings are used in the development of propulsion technology, machine tools, automobiles, and in many additional fields.
